چکیده

ARX models in which the innovations are described by as Student’s t distributed instead of the typical Gaussian noise has certain advantages. In this paper, we consider such a model in a Bayesian setting and develop numerical procedures based on Markov Chain Monte Carlo methods to perform inference. This model includes automatic order determination by two alternative methods, based on a parametric model order and a sparseness prior, respectively. Our choice of distribution of the innovations provides an increased robustness to data anomalies, such as outliers and missing observations. This is illustrated in three numerical studies using both simulated data and real EEG data.

Hierarchical Bayesian ARX models for robust inference

Gaussian innovations are the typical choice in most ARX models but using other distributions such as the Student’s t could be useful. We demonstrate that this choice of distribution for the innovations provides an increased robustness to data anomalies, such as outliers and missing observations. We consider these models in a Bayesian setting and perform inference using numerical procedures base...

New Approaches in 3D Geomechanical Earth Modeling

In this paper two new approaches for building 3D Geomechanical Earth Model (GEM) were introduced. The first method is a hybrid of geostatistical estimators, Bayesian inference, Markov chain and Monte Carlo, which is called Model Based Geostatistics (MBG). It has utilized to achieve more accurate geomechanical model and condition the model and parameters of variogram. The second approach is the ...

Comparison of two QTL mapping approaches based on Bayesian inference using high-dense SNPs markers

To compare different QTL mapping methods, a population with genotypic and phenotypic data was simulated. In Bayesian approach, all information of markers can be used along with combination of distributions of SNP markers. It is assumed that most of the markers (95%) have minor effects and a few numbers of markers (5%) exert major effects. The simulated population included a basic population of ...

Robust ARX models with automatic order determination and Student’s t innovations

ARX models is a common class of models of dynamical systems. Here, we consider the case when the innovation process is not well described by Gaussian noise and instead propose to model the driving noise as Student's t distributed. The t distribution is more heavy tailed than the Gaussian distribution, which provides an increased robustness to data anomalies, such as outliers and missing observa...

Inference after checking multiple Bayesian models for data conflict and applications to mitigating the influence of rejected priors

Two major approaches have developed within Bayesian statistics to address uncertainty in the prior distribution and in the overall model more generally. First, methods of model checking, including those assessing prior-data conflict, determine whether the prior and the rest of the model are adequate for purposes of inference and estimation or other decision-making. The main drawback of this app...
